An oil painting by David WelshEton College
This view of Eton College is from College Field. It shows the Provost's Lodge on the left, behind which are the Cloisters. In front is the King of Siam's garden, and some new pilasters on which are inscribed the names of recent benefactors to the College. The bell-towers of the Chapel are just visible in the centre. The buildings towards the right are part of College, where the Scholars have their rooms. The arch on the right leads to Weston's Yard. The figures show two teachers ('Beaks') in the centre, who wear dark suits and white bow ties on wing collars. They wear gowns for lessons ('Divs'). Boys wear tail coats, and if they are in 'Pop' (which approximates to prefects), they wear light grey, sponge-bag trousers and waistcoats of their choice.
